Fit electric power steering to your classic car or hot rod. In the example pics show here I used the kit available from Competition Engines. It has to be cut into and fitted to the steering column, so you need to have some good fabrication and welding skills if you are going to attempt it yourself. I buy these units in as I need them, I do not stock them.  You can buy it yourself and I can fit it, they are a good unit and work well.
   
Typically the steering column needs to be cut and the hole new assembly fits up under the dash. Really it can go anywhere in the steering shaft system between the steering wheel and the steering box or rack and pinion, however most engine bays do not have the clearance space or room to fit the drive and electric motor.
 
It involves completely pulling the steering column to pieces, so there may be other issues with your old column once I get it apart so be prepared as not all columns come apart easily.  There maybe other parts to buy to splice the unit into your particular set up, I won't know exacly what until I get the car in and pull it apart however I do work in with you so you know where we are going with it. Fitting electric power steering is in many cases much simpler than installing a rack or a steering box from some other car and make it fit yours.  There is no requirement for a crankshaft driven, belt drive oil pump, and best of all the steering to suspension geometry remains factory unchanged.
